Grace B. Francisco was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, immigrating to the USA in 1961. Thanks to her father’s ingenuity and the kindness of strangers in Whittier, California, the Francisco’s were sponsored by the Cantelmo family of Whittier. Grace attended Rio Hondo College, Palomar College, San Diego State and Cal State San Marcos. Her library career began in 1980 at the San Diego County Library system in Vista. In 1982, the opportunity arose for her to work at the Oceanside Public Library, her first day was April 26,1982. Starting as a Library Technician, she became part of many innovative library outreach programs such as Adelante. She was honored to be chosen as a delegate representing California at the 1991 White House Conference on Library and Information Services. Heeding the call of grandchildren wanting more time with Nana Grace, she retired from the Oceanside Public Library as the Principal Librarian in Children’s Services on June 7, 2013. Grace now serves as a member of the Oceanside Public Library Foundation Board and is an avid reader and supporter of libraries!
